Lombard Police Announce Super Bowl Enforcement Results

The Lombard Police Department announced the results of their recent Super Bowl weekend enforcement campaign. The goal was to keep impaired drivers off the roads and ensure more people buckle up and follow all traffic safety laws.

During the enforcement period, which ran from Friday, Feb. 6, through the early morning hours of Monday, Feb. 9, Lombard Police issued the following citations and made the following arrests:

  • 10 seat belt citations
  • 3 child safety seat citations
  • 4 speeding citations
  • 5 distracted driving citations (cell phone use)
  • 12 other citations (moving/non-moving violations)
  • 1 traffic-related arrest (suspended/revoked/no valid driver’s license)

“Our focus is always on keeping our roads safe,” said Police Lieutenant Tom Balsitis. “While we are encouraged that no DUIs were issued, the real goal of these efforts is prevention. Increased patrols and visibility remind drivers to make responsible choices before getting behind the wheel.”

Safer Internet Day Observed Feb. 10

February 10 marked Safer Internet Day, a reminder that online safety plays an important role in protecting children and teens.

Parents and caregivers are encouraged to talk often with young people about their online activity. Review basic safety steps together, such as setting clear rules for device use, checking privacy settings, and monitoring friends and followers. Make sure children know which trusted adults they can turn to if something feels wrong. Families should also have a plan for blocking and reporting unwanted contact.

Anyone can be targeted online. If a child receives a message or contact that raises concern, they should stop communication immediately, block the individual, and tell a trusted adult.

Residents are reminded that if they believe a child is experiencing unsafe or exploitative behavior online, they should contact the Lombard Police Department. Additional online safety resources are available through the Illinois Attorney General’s Office.
