Residents Gather for First Coffee with the Village President

Thank you to everyone who joined the Village for the first Coffee with the Village President on Saturday. Approximately 30 residents attended the event, which provided an opportunity to connect and take part in open conversations about topics important to the Lombard community.

The Village appreciated the thoughtful discussion and the chance to listen, share information, and engage with residents in a relaxed setting. Events like this help strengthen communication and build meaningful connections between residents and Village leadership.

Coffee with the Village President events will continue at locations throughout the Village. Details will be shared as dates and locations are confirmed, and residents are encouraged to attend an upcoming session.

Fire Department to Offer CPR Training Classes

The Lombard Fire Department recently launched a new community CPR training program for 2026, and the response has been strong. The first class, scheduled for Saturday, February 7, is now full.

The Fire Department plans to offer additional CPR classes throughout the year. These sessions will provide Heartsaver CPR training for non-medical individuals and will cover CPR and AED use, Narcan administration, and how to respond to choking emergencies.

Details on future class dates and registration will be shared as they become available. Residents are encouraged to watch for upcoming announcements and participate in a future session.

Village Shares Safety Tips Ahead of Dangerous Cold

The Village is sharing important safety reminders as the National Weather Service warns of dangerously cold conditions from Thursday night through Saturday morning. Wind chills during this period may drop as low as -35 degrees, creating hazardous conditions for anyone exposed to the cold.

Residents are encouraged to stay indoors whenever possible, take steps to prevent frozen pipes by allowing faucets to drip, and bring pets inside. Please also check on elderly neighbors, family members, and others who may be vulnerable during extreme cold. If you must be outdoors, dress in warm layers, cover exposed skin, and limit your time outside.

For warming center locations in Lombard and nearby communities, visit the 211 DuPage website.

Metra to Operate Reduced Schedules Due to Extreme Cold

Due to the extremely cold weather forecast for Friday, January 23, Metra has announced it will operate reduced train schedules across its system. Riders are encouraged to check Metra’s website for line-specific schedule information before traveling.

Residents planning to use Metra should allow extra time for their commute and monitor service updates in advance of their trip. For full details and the latest service information, visit the Metra website.

Carbon Monoxide Safety During Winter Months

The risk of carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning increases during the winter, as colder temperatures cause home heating systems to run longer and more frequently. Often referred to as the “silent killer,” carbon monoxide is an invisible, odorless, and colorless gas produced when fuels such as gasoline, wood, coal, natural gas, propane, oil, or methane do not burn completely.

Carbon monoxide alarms provide early warning when unsafe levels of CO are present in your home. The Lombard Fire Department recommends installing CO alarms on every level of the home, particularly in homes with fuel-burning appliances or an attached garage. If you ever suspect a carbon monoxide issue, call 911 immediately. When it comes to CO, it is always safer to act quickly.

Energy Assistance Available Through DuPage County LIHEAP

Income-eligible residents may qualify for assistance with paying their gas and electric bills through the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP). The program helps households manage energy costs, especially during the winter months.

To improve access, Saturday appointments are available at Community Services. Residents can schedule an appointment online at https://tinyurl.com/LIHEAP-APPT. Appointments are required, and availability is limited. Residents are encouraged to schedule as soon as possible.
