As students prepare to return to school, take a moment to review these safety tips and reminders to help ensure a safe school year. - Slow down in school zones.
- Put your phone away - state law bans the non-hands-free use of cell phones and texting while driving.
- Watch for children crossing streets and for directions from crossing guards.
- Be extra vigilant on streets adjacent to schools, especially at the beginning and end of school days.
- Watch for children darting out from between parked cars.
- Drop off and pick up in designated areas.
- Stop for buses loading or unloading students.
- Watch for warning signs and signals.

Nominate Your 2025 Senior Man & Woman of the Year
This year's Senior of the Year Award nominations are now open. These awards celebrate the dedication and impact of seniors in our community who volunteer or go above and beyond to make Lombard a better place. Residents are encouraged to nominate seniors who have demonstrated a commitment to serving others. To be eligible, nominees must be 65 years of age or older and reside within the incorporated limits of Lombard. Nominations should include a brief statement (50 words or less) highlighting why the nominee deserves recognition, along with a short biography. All nominations must be received by 4:30 p.m., Friday, September 5, 2025, for consideration.

Lombard Police Share Speed Enforcement Results
The Lombard Police Department recently conducted a traffic safety campaign from July 8 through Aug. 1, 2025, reminding motorists to slow down to save lives. During the campaign, Lombard Police increased their patrols to enforce posted speed limits with a focus on roadways that experience the most speed violations and residential areas. During this enforcement period, the Lombard Police Department issued: - 182 speeding citations
- 5 seatbelt citations
- 7 child seat safety citations
- 6 distracted driving (cell phone) citations
- 26 other citations (moving/non-moving)
- 6 traffic-related arrests (no valid/suspended/revoked licenses)

Maple Street Parking Lot Closed for Lighting Installation: August 11–13
The Maple Street commuter parking lot will be closed from Monday, August 11 through Wednesday, August 13 for the installation of new lighting, weather permitting. Commuters and visitors are asked to plan accordingly and use alternative parking lots during this time. Signage has been posted at the lot entrance to provide advance notice. 2025 Lombard Citizen’s Fire Academy
The Lombard Fire Department invites citizens living or working in Lombard to participate in its 5th Annual Citizen’s Fire Academy, beginning September 10, 2025. The academy is led by Lombard firefighters and designed to provide participants with a unique opportunity to learn about the work and training our Lombard Firefighters perform on a daily basis. The academy is a free, five-week program held on Wednesday evenings from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Lombard Fire Station #45, 50 E St. Charles Rd. Applications are due by August 15, 2025, and are available for printing on the Village’s website at www.villageoflombard.org/citizensacademy, or may be picked up at Lombard Village Hall, 255 E. Wilson Ave.

2025 Lombard Citizen’s Police Academy The Lombard Police Department is still accepting applications for its 35th Annual Citizens Police Academy. This free, 10-week program provides a unique, behind-the-scenes look at local law enforcement, including hands-on experiences and presentations from officers. Classes will be held Tuesday evenings from 7:00 to 9:30 p.m. at Village Hall, beginning September 9th. Participants must be at least 18 years old, and space is limited to 20 individuals. Applications are due by August 25 and are available online, at Village Hall, or the Lombard Police Department. For more information and to apply, visit the Village website.

Know the Rules for E-Scooters, E-Bikes, and Other Motorized Devices
The Lombard Police Department is continuing efforts to educate the community about laws and safety guidelines for using e-scooters, e-bikes, and other motorized devices. Here are a few important reminders: - Riders of e-scooters must be 18 or older, per State law.
- E-bikes must follow the Bicycle Rules of the Road.
- Class 3 e-bike riders must be at least 16 years old.
- Riding on sidewalks is discouraged and prohibited in certain areas, including Downtown Lombard. Refer to the Walk Your Wheels webpage for details.
- Kids under 16 cannot operate non-highway motorcycles or similar motor-driven cycles (gas or electric) on public roads, as these require a valid driver's license and insurance.

Vendors Invited to Participate in Annual Senior Fair The Village of Lombard is inviting local organizations and businesses to participate in its 19th Annual Senior Fair scheduled to take place on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, at the Lombard Park District’s Madison Meadow Athletic Center (MMAC) from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. This event helps provide local seniors with resources, health screenings and information about community programs and services.
Interested vendors are encouraged to applyon the Village website. The deadline to submit an application is Friday, September 12, 2025. Spaces are limited and will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.
