Not only is the use of illegal fireworks dangerous and can lead to serious injury, but the loud noise can also cause distress for our community’s children, seniors, veterans and pets. Additionally, Illinois law prohibits the use of consumer fireworks, including bottle rockets, roman candles, firecrackers, and other explosive devices. Only novelty items such as smoke bombs, sparklers and poppers are permitted. Learn more about the risks of fireworks use and review safety tips here.

Tips to Select a Contractor and Avoid Scams The Lombard Police Department has received recent reports of scams involving individuals posing as legitimate contractors. These scams use high-pressure or misleading tactics, result in poor-quality work, and often involve demands for immediate cash payment.
Protect yourself when hiring for home repairs:
- Be wary of contractors going door-to-door, pressuring you to make immediate repairs, claiming they have leftover materials or insisting you sign a contract the same day. To view photos of active solicitors registered in Lombard, visit villageoflombard.org/solicitorphotos.
- Check for a permanent place of business and a working telephone number.
- Secure at least two or three estimates, question quotes that are significantly lower than others and ensure they cover the same materials and scope of work.
- Obtain a clear, written contract signed by both parties that details all work to be performed, costs and payment schedule.

Help Keep Downtown Lombard Safe: Walk Your Wheels
Pedestrian safety is a top priority in the Village of Lombard. To ensure our downtown remains welcoming and safe for everyone, riding bicycles, skateboards, scooters, in-line skates or roller skates on downtown sidewalks is prohibited. Instead, remember to “Walk Your Wheels” when traveling on foot within the downtown business district. As part of the Village’s Walk Your Wheels campaign, there are new sidewalk decals throughout the downtown to remind everyone to dismount and walk in these areas. We appreciate your cooperation in helping make our downtown a safe, pedestrian-friendly place for all to enjoy.
