Storm Update - May 16, 2025

Today, Lombard Public Works crews continued cleanup operations and assessments throughout the Village. Following a thorough assessment of storm damage, including on-site inspections and requests submitted by the public, the amount of damage does not meet the requirements for a Village-wide brush pickup.

A map of the assessed storm damage can be viewed here. The results showed that no single zone had damage to 75 or more parkway trees, and no two neighboring zones combined had damage to 150 or more trees. These are the numbers that must be met before the Village can offer a special storm debris pickup.

As such, there will be no special village-wide brush pickup for storm debris. Residents should continue to bundle any private brush and place it out for pickup according to regular yard waste guidelines:

  • Each bundle must have a yard waste sticker attached.
  • Brush must be securely bundled using non-plastic twine or string.
  • Bundles must not exceed 50 pounds, 6 feet in length, or 18 inches in diameter, with no individual branches exceeding 6 inches in diameter.

If you have questions or need further information, please contact Public Works at (630) 620-5740 or via email at publicworks@villageoflombard.org

New District 2 Trustee Appointed to Village Board

The Village of Lombard is pleased to announce the appointment of Jessica “Jessie” Hammersmith to its Village Board of Trustees, representing District 2. She will fill the remainder of the term previously held by Trustee Anthony Puccio, who was sworn in as Village President on May 1, 2025. Hammersmith was officially sworn in during the Village Board meeting on Thursday, May 15, 2025, and will serve through the remainder of the unexpired term, which concludes in May 2027.

"We are pleased to welcome Jessie Hammersmith to the Village Board of Trustees and look forward to working together to serve the residents of Lombard," said Village President Anthony Puccio. "She brings a strong commitment to public service that will benefit the community."

In early April, the Village announced the District 2 vacancy and invited residents to apply. Following a competitive process, all applicants were interviewed by members of the Village Board. Village President Puccio made the appointment with the advice and consent of the Board.

"Click it or Ticket" this Memorial Day

The Lombard Police announced it is stepping up enforcement for the Memorial Day “Click It or Ticket” campaign that will run Friday, May 16th, through Tuesday, May 27th, and reminds motorists to buckle up for safety. The “Click It or Ticket” campaign focuses on safety education and law enforcement to save lives.

“Seat belt use should be an automatic habit for everyone,” said Police Sergeant Tom Balsitis. “It’s not just safe; it’s the law. During this campaign, law enforcement agencies will be working together to ensure the message reaches all drivers and passengers. Buckling up is the simplest way to reduce injury or save a life in a crash.”

National Police Week: May 11-17

Communities across the United States observe National Police Week to honor and remember law enforcement officers who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty, as well as the family members, friends, and fellow officers they left behind.

In Lombard, officers who lost their lives in the line of duty include:

  • John Frost, end of watch: September 1936
  • Louis Schuetz, end of watch: July 30, 1933
  • Allan Mollsen, end of watch: September 28, 1986

National Police Week was established in 1962 when President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation designating May 15 as Peace Officers Memorial Day and the week in which that date falls as Police Week.
