Prevent Carbon Monoxide Poisoning
The risk of Carbon Monoxide (CO) poisoning increases during winter months due to cold temperatures forcing home heating systems to run longer and more frequently. Often called the silent killer, CO is an invisible, odorless, colorless gas created when fuels (such as gasoline, wood, coal, natural gas, propane, oil, and methane) burn incompletely.
CO alarms provide early warning of CO in your home. To help prevent CO poisoning, the Lombard Fire Department recommends installing CO alarms on every level of the home if your home has fuel-burning appliances or an attached garage. Please do not hesitate to call 911 at any time if you think there may be a CO problem in your home. It is always better to be safe than sorry when it comes to CO.

Protect Your Family from Norovirus
Norovirus, a highly contagious stomach virus, is spreading widely this winter. This important message from the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) highlights how to protect yourself and your loved ones:
Symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and stomach pain typically develop 12-48 hours after exposure and can last for 1-3 days. While most people recover without serious complications, it’s important to take steps to prevent the spread of this virus and protect your family. Here's what you need to do: - Wash hands well and often with soap and water (hand sanitizer won’t cut it).
- Clean and disinfect surfaces regularly.
- Don’t cook or care for others if you’re sick.
- Call your healthcare provider if you have concerns, severe vomiting or diarrhea, or dehydration.
