Winter Tree Pruning Locations and Schedule
This winter, the Village of Lombard will be pruning parkway trees on the west side of town. The area is bordered by the Great Western Trail, Main Street and W. Central Avenue. The pruning work will be carried out by Village personnel and a private tree maintenance firm contracted by the Village of Lombard. The pruning is scheduled for completion by the end of April 2025.
Public safety is the Village’s first priority, followed by tree health and aesthetics. Parkway trees have different maintenance requirements compared to decorative landscape trees and will be pruned accordingly. Typically, no more than one-quarter of the live crown will be removed at one time. The amount to be removed will depend on the tree species, size, condition, and the time elapsed since the last pruning cycle. Village personnel will make this determination.

Holiday Recycling Reminders
As the season winds down, Lombard Public Works encourages residents to recycle and dispose of seasonal items responsibly. Here’s how you can help keep our community clean and green:
Free Holiday Tree Pick Up Through Friday, January 17th, residents can place holiday trees at their curbsides for free disposal. Please ensure all tinsel, ornaments, and decorations are removed before placing the tree out for pickup.
Holiday Light Recycling Don’t toss those old or unwanted holiday lights, extension cords, or scrap wiring—recycle them instead! A convenient collection bin is located at the Public Works facility, 1051 Hammerschmidt Avenue. The last day to drop off items is Monday, January 20th.

Recycling Electronics and HHW Disposal Information
Do you have electronics to recycle and/or Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) to dispose of? An HHW drop-off facility is available in Naperville and is open on Saturdays and Sundays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. A great local resource to recycle electronics, although not televisions or monitors, is the Goodwill Store in Lombard.
In addition, residential HHW and electronics may be collected curbside at no cost by Waste Management on a first-come, first-served basis for a limited quantity each year. Residents are requested to combine pickups with neighbors to allow the program to serve more people.
More information is available on the Village’s HHW Disposal page, or you may contact, or contact Public Works at (630) 620-5740 or publicworks@villageoflombard.org.

January is National Radon Action Month
January is National Radon Action Month, an annual observance that focuses on increasing awareness of the health risks of radon, which is the second leading cause of lung cancer. In connection with this observance, the Village of Lombard encourages residents to check the radon levels of their homes in January or during the winter months.
Radon is a naturally occurring radioactive gas emitted from the ground that is odorless, tasteless and colorless. Radon can enter a home through cracks in walls, basement floors, foundations and other openings. Although radon gas is measurable everywhere, the highest readings are commonly found in the basement and first-floor levels of homes and apartments.
